PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital reproducing device equipped with an automatic equalizer capable of converging in a good state in a short period of time, and executing stable automatic equalization in the converged state. SOLUTION: In the equalization of a reproducing signal in the digital reproducing device, after the number of errors is detected from a reproducing signal, the cycle of controlling equalization characteristics for an equalizer circuit, and the minimum changing amount of the tap coefficient of the equalizer circuit are changed according to the detected number of errors.
