A particulate synthetic resin is moulded by compressing the resin to form a pre-shaped or roughly shaped product, then compressing this pre-shaped product isostatically, in an inert molten metal, at high pressure to the required specific weight, while sintering, and possibly including a heat treatment between the two compression stages. The process is applicable to (co)polymers of TFE to polysulphones, to polyphenyl ethers, to aromatic polyamides and polyimides, to aromatic polybenzimidazoles and to aromatic polybenzoxazoles. Articles of both large and small dimensions can be produced. |
