Increasing accuracy of distance measurement between read/write devices and mobile data memories

The method involves the read-write device in a first transmission channel with several channels (K1-K4) conducting a first distance measurement between the mobile data memory and a read-write device and, on detecting excessive scatter of the detected distance values from the first distance measurement, carrying out a further distance measurement with additional channels (K5-K11). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a read-write device, especially for an identification system; (b) a mobile data memory, especially for an identification system; and (c) an identification system for detecting object-related state and/or process data.
