The method involves radio devices installed in each vehicle (16) sending information via a radio-based train data communications system on request by a train master. A unique train-specific identification signal is transmitted to all vehicles before determining the sequence and the vehicle radio devices (20) confirm the signal during determination of the sequence. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for determining the physical sequence of vehicles in a combined train.
