PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and sufficiently generate the braking force even in being interrupted by a vehicle. SOLUTION: This leading car follow-up controller comprises a leading car candidate selecting part 51 for detecting a leading car candidate as an object of control, an intervehicle distance sensor (not shown in drawing) for detecting an approach state of the leading car candidate detected by a leading car candidate detecting means and a self-car, a leading car candidate X-direction relative speed selecting part 52, a leading car candidate Y-direction relative speed selecting part 53, a leading car candidate X-direction relative speed variation operating part 55 (approach state detecting means), a change gear ratio command value X-direction correction map part 54 for changing a change gear ratio of the self-car on the basis of the approach state detected by the approach state detecting means, a change gear ratio command value Y-direction correction map part 56, a change gear ratio command value X-direction variation correction map 57, and a change gear ratio correction operating part 60 (change gear ratio changing means).
