PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress corrosion occurring in a nonpassivated metallic body such as a heat transfer tube of a boiler caused by the influence of moisture. SOLUTION: The method for suppressing corrosion includes a stage where the water quantity of moisture affecting a nonpassivated metallic body such as a heat transfer tube of a boiler is controlled so that sulfurous acid ions are contained, and also, the concentration of sulfuric acid ions is≤600 mg/L. The water quantity can be attained by feeding sulfite for removing dissolved oxygen while controlling its feed quantity. The corrosion which can be suppressed by this method is, for example, the local corrosion going from the side in the contact face with water in a heat transfer tube toward the opposite side to the thickness direction.
