<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suppress the temperature rise in an electro-optical device put in a packaging case, on which a relative strong projection light is made incident. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device put in a packaging case is provided with an electro-optical device (500) and a packaging case (601), and projection light is made incident on an image display area of the electro-optical device, and the packaging case comprises a plate (610) arranged so as to face one surface of the electro-optical device and a cover (620) which covers the electro-optical device and has a portion to be abutted on the plate, and causes at least a part of a peripheral area placed in the periphery of the image display area of the electro-optical device to be held by at least one of the plate and the cover to store the electro-optical device therein.
