<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which an image can be recorded on a reversible image recording medium under optimal image recording conditions and a good image quality can be sustained. <P>SOLUTION: A reversible image recording medium is set, and density is measured by recording a test image for measuring the density under specified image recording conditions before a specified image is recorded (steps 100-106). A decision is then made whether the measured density falls within an allowable range or not, and the specified image is recorded on the image recording medium under image recording conditions at that time if the measured density falls within the allowable range and then the image recording medium is discharged to a discharge tray (steps 108-112). If the measured density does not fall within the allowable range, the image recording conditions are altered (steps 108, 114, 118, 120) and the density is measured by recording the test image again. If the measured density does not fall within the allowable range even after the density is measured up to a threshold value, a decision is made that the image recording medium has reached its lifetime and the image recording medium is discharged to a discharge tray for error (steps 108, 114, 116). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
