<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for polymer gel fixing, a polymer gel curable composition, a polymer gel composition and an optical element in which volume change characteristics of a stimulation-responsive polymer gel is maintained and optical density can be largely changed by stimulation. <P>SOLUTION: This resin composition for polymer gel fixing which is used for dispersing and fixing a stimulation-responsive polymer gel undergoing volume change due to the absorption and desorption of a liquid to be absorbed and desorbed at least comprises a crosslinkable polymer with a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or more. The polymer gel curable composition comprises the resin composition for polymer gel fixing, the liquid to be absorbed and desorbed, and the stimulation-responsive polymer gel undergoing volume change due to the absorption and desorption of the liquid to be absorbed and desorbed.
