PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic black toner which has good transfer efficiency, which exhibits little fog and scattering, and which exhibits excellent endurance stability and blackness. SOLUTION: The magnetic black toner is a small particle size magnetic substance (0.1 to 0.3μm) containing 0.3 to 1.5 mass% titanium, wherein the ratio A/B of the proportion (A%) of FeO to total Fe in 10 mass% from the particle surface to the proportion (B%) of FeO to total Fe in the remaining 90 mass% ranges from 0.7 to 1.0, the magnetic substance has an electric resistance of 5×10<SP>1</SP>to 5×10<SP>3</SP>Ωcm, the surface of the magnetic substance is coated with an iron-zinc oxide film, and further the surface layer contains silicon elements.
