PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the reading rate in reading at a low resolution while approximately keeping the same level as in the prior art. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises a means for converting reflected lights from a manuscript into electronic signals, an image sensor composed of a plurality of photo detectors having a means for temporarily accumulating the electronic signals, a plurality of switching elements at the output side of the plurality of photo detectors having means for transferring charges generated by the photo detectors, and a switching control means for generating control signals for the switching elements.
