PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus of automatically generating an efficient digest by using an audience rating or audience counts. SOLUTION: The digest generating apparatus obtains an audience rating or audience counts of an image or sound for generating a digest for every time, extracts images and sounds for time section having the audience rating or the audience counts exceeding a predetermined threshold, and generates a digest by using the extracted images or the sounds. Also, the apparatus obtains an audience rating or the audience counts corresponding to an audience group having a specific user profile, and generates a digest by using the audience rating or the audience counts.
