PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which can shorten a warm-up time and reduce power consumption and avoids adverse influence of heat generation by a fixing member upon a highly magnetic permeable member as a fixing device which performs heating operation by an induction heating system. SOLUTION: A fixing roller 11 which is a fixing member is provided with a magnetic metal layer 12 and a nonmagnetic metal layer 13 which comes into contact with its internal surface. An exciting coil 31 is arranged outside the fixing roller 11 and nearby the place where the fixing roller 11 and a pressure roller 21 abut against each other. Further, ferrite 32 is arranged nearby the exciting coil 31 to intensify the magnetic field by the exciting coil 31. Then the eddy current load of the nonmagnetic metal layer 13 of the fixing roller 11 is set to≥2.4×10<SP>-3</SP>Ω, specially, 2.8×10<SP>-3</SP>to 8.0×10<SP>-3</SP>Ω. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
