PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage battery which consists of M×N pieces of cells (M, N are all odd numbers of 3 or more) arranged in M rows/N columns and in which all the cells are connected in series and, which is low in manufacturing cost, light in weight, and superior in large current discharge characteristics, and deterioration of the battery case hardly occurs. SOLUTION: The storage battery is constructed of a battery and a battery case fixing the battery, and the battery is composed of M×N pieces (M, N are all odd numbers of 3 or more) of cells, and each cell comprises a positive electrode terminal and a negative electrode terminal. The M×N pieces of cells are all connected in series and the cells included in a continuing 2n columns (2n<N, n is an integer of 1 or more) are connected alternately in row direction and in column direction in zigzag, and the cells included in the remaining (N-2n) columns are connected in straight line form in each column direction, and the cell X which has a negative electrode terminal of the lowest potential and the cell Y which has a positive electrode terminal of the highest potential are positioned respectively at the both ends of the same row or column, and the row or column that includes the cell X or the cell Y forms one side face of the battery.
