PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and a coating apparatus for a plastic bottle coated with a barrier film, which does not cause deterioration of the barrier property of the bottle due to its thermal shrinkage in a high temperature filling process. SOLUTION: A bottle heat treatment apparatus comprising a heating section and a cooling section is arranged on a feed conveyer. The plastic bottle is subjected to heat treatment on the conveyer, in which chiefly the shoulder of the bottle is heated, then cooled, with infrared rays, heated air or in an electric furnace, or using a combination of them, so as to give the bottle a heat record that makes the thermal shrinkage rate of the bottle 1.0% or less, or desirably 0.5% or less in the high temperature filling process.
