PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide frozen confectionery having mottled patterns, specifically the confectionery whose surface is smooth and has mottled patterns without unevenness; and to provide a coating composition for frozen confectionery used for applying such mottled patterns to the confectionery. SOLUTION: The frozen confectionery is obtained by cooling a gelatinizer-containing water solution while stirring to prepare liquidity gel, dispersing oil and fat having color tone different from that of the liquidity gel into the liquidity gel, and freezing the resultant gel. The frozen confectionery coating composition is obtained by cooling the gelatinizer-containing water solution while stirring to prepare liquidity gel, and dispersing oil and fat having color tone different from that of the liquidity gel into the liquidity gel.
