CULTURE MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR GLYCOPEPTIDE RESISTANCE TESTING IN GRAM POSITIVE BACTERIA

A medium for culturing Gram positive organisms expressing glycopeptide resistance not related to van gene mediated glycopeptide resistance, the medium comprises: at least one nutrient (eg. Brain heart Infusion); magnesium or a magnesium compound; and a yeast product (eg. Yeast extract). The medium is particularly useful for the detection of resistance to vancomycin in gram positive organisms (eg. S. aureus) expressing glycopeptide resistance not related to van gene mediated glycopeptide resistance.
