A magnetooptic recording medium (D1) having such a structure that a soft magnetic layer (2) and a magnetooptic recording layer (3) are laid sequentially in layers on a substrate (1), and a plurality of grooves (G) and lands (L) are provided. A product of saturation magnetic flux density and thickness of the soft magnetic layer (2) is different for each groove (G) and each land (L). Since magnetic focusing effect can be enhanced for any one of each groove (G) and each land (L) having a larger product of saturation magnetic flux density and thickness of the soft magnetic layer (2) and can be weakened for the smaller one, and generation of cross-write can be suppressed.
