<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing or inactivating a contaminant such as phosphorus, sulfur and lead in exhaust combustion gas. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus and a method are provided for delivering molybdenum from a lubricant source to a fuel combustion system or to the exhaust gas therefrom. The molybdenum derived from a lubricant or fuel and the phosphorus is interacted with sulfur and/or lead derived form a combustion product. In this manner, the molybdenum scavenges or inactivates harmful material migrated into the fuel or combustion product. A catalytic converter, a sensor and/or an automobile on-board diagnostic device therefore can be prevented from being poisoned by such a harmful material and the durability of an exhaust-after-treatment system can also be improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
