<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffusing plate which can reduce the components, an inexpensive and simple direct back light, and a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing and diffusing plate 6 is disposed between the liquid crystal panel 2 and the lamp (the light source) 5.
