PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make association between a copied image and a copy source image for convenience to later edition and arrangement work; to automatically assign a file name to allow an operator to free from troublesome operation of renaming a file name. SOLUTION: In copying operation, an image handling system has a copy mode in which a copying image can be recorded without change of the file name of an image information file previously recorded in a recording medium for the copy source, and a means for automatically producing a file name to be set to the image file, in an image recording mode other than the copy mode, using a serial number based on a file name stored so as to be updated.
