PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp lighting device and an illuminating device for supplying power to an integrated circuit composing the lighting device without using an expensive element such as an IPD in the lighting device having a pause section for a restart of a high-pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The lighting device comprises a drive circuit S for driving from a 1st switching element Q2 to a 4th switching elements Q5; a power supply auxiliary circuit 5 for supplying a power source to at least the drive circuit S; a load circuit 4 having a high-pressure discharge lamp LA connected between a 1st connecting point to be a connecting point of the 1st and 2nd switching elements Q2, Q3 and a 2nd connecting point to be a connecting point of the 3rd and 4th switching elements Q4, Q5; and a unidirectional element D10 disposed at either the 1st or the 2nd connecting point for flowing a current from the connecting point in the direction of the power supply auxiliary circuit 5.
