PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a optically active compound of mesylate trihydrate salt of (1S,2S)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4-hydroxy-4-phenylpiperidin-1-yl)-1-propanol compound represented by formula (I). SOLUTION: The optically active substance of the compound is produced by a method for producing mesylate trihydrate salt of a compound represented by formula (I), wherein the method comprises steps of (i) dissolving D-(-)-tartrate salt of a compound represented by formula (I) in an aqueous solution of methanesulfonic acid and (ii) separating the methanesulfonate trihydrate from the solution.
