PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arrestor with a gap that can provide a stable lightening function same as the conventional arrestor without damaging the peripheral equipment even when a zinc oxide element is destroyed. SOLUTION: An electrode block 5 is fixed by a central insulating rod 3 on the upper end face of a zinc oxide element 1 of which the outer circumference is protected by a heat contraction tube 4. The whole part is integrated by arranging a gap spacer 14 having upper and lower discharge electrodes 12, 13 at their inside on the upper end surface of the electrode block 5, arranging a cap 16 thereon, and making the lower end part 19 of the cap engage with the electrode block 5.
