PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal recording apparatus capable of recording all the video signals having equal to or more than predetermined quality without determining whether or not to record the video signals according to the presence or absence of input video signals. SOLUTION: When recording the input video signals, a video signal compressing section 101 determines whether or not the signals of inputted video signals can be recorded, and informs a control unit 106 about data of a determination result. Using the data of determination result, the unit 106 instructs a recording section 102 to stop recording by an recording stop instruction when it is determined that the signals cannot be recorded.
