PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light-weight lusterless coated paper that has bulkiness, excellent opacity, good surface quality and excellent image reproducing properties by forming the coating layer on the base paper that is produced by making paper from a high-yield pulp of specific broad-leaf trees. SOLUTION: This light-weight lusterless coated paper is produced by coating the base paper mainly comprising wood pulp with a coating layer mainly containing pigments and adhesives. In this case, the base paper is prepared by using high-yield pulp of a broad-leaf tree produced by cooking broad-leaf high yield pulp in the cooking liquor mainly containing sodium sulfite so that the yield of the base paper reaches 75-85%, then fibrillating, and bleaching with hydrogen peroxide until attaining whiteness of≥65% and adding the bleached pulp to the base paper in an amount of 20-60 mass%. The resultant base paper is coated with the coating layer in a rate of≤8 g/m<SP>2</SP>on one surface (on the dry solid basis) by means of a blade coater finally surface-smoothing the coated surface with a soft-calender immediately after drying.
