PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively drop mud attached to a root vegetable part 3b of a root vegetable crop 3 pulled out from soil before carrying out root-cutting treatment and leaf and stem-cutting treatment of the root vegetable crop 3 and improve mud-dropping action by a root vegetable contact mud-dropping device 22 even when the mud is soil liable to stick, e.g. Kuroboku soils (black-color rich soil) and the mud is attached to the root vegetable part 3b in lump-like state. SOLUTION: This root vegetable harvester is equipped with a holding and conveying apparatus 9 for pulling out the root vegetable part 3b from the ground and then moving the root vegetable crop 3 in hanging down posture by conveying the leaf and stem part of the root vegetable crop 3 in a held state. In the root vegetable harvester, a leaf and stem-striking and mud-dropping means 12A operated so as to strike only the part of the leaf and stem part 3a which is located at a position lower than a position at which the holding and conveying apparatus 9 holds the root vegetable crop 3 in a process in which the root vegetable crop 3 is moved in a hung down posture by the holding and conveying apparatus 9 is installed.
