The stethoscope (2) has a filter unit (21) coupled electrically to a receiver (20) for receiving and filtering an audio signal. An operating unit (23) generates an input mode signal related to a selected operating mode. A processor (24) is coupled electrically to an analog-to-digital converter (22) and the operating unit for processing set of digital signals and outputting one digital signal based on the mode signal. The filter unit includes band pass filters with frequency band of 20approximately230 Hertz, 100approximately800 Hertz, 20approximately500 Hertz.
