PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reference clock pattern writing technology for a magnetic disk device, for improving the writing accuracy of a reference clock pattern by completing the reference clock pattern so as to reduce cumulated error causes. SOLUTION: The servo pattern information writing device for a magnetic disk unit is provided with a magnetic disk unit 1, a magnetic head 28 different from the magnetic head 17 of the magnetic disk unit 1, a control PC 17, a VCM control section 18, a servo write/clock write control section 9, a spindle control section 22, and the like. A reference clock pattern is accurately generated directly by a magnetic head 8 itself for reference clock pattern writing without using any specific head 1 of the magnetic head 7 attached to the magnetic disk unit 1, and thus a reference clock pattern is completed to highly accurately write a servo pattern on a magnetic disk 2.
