PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which drives a plasma display panel and carries out write discharge normally, and to provide a plasma display device. SOLUTION: A subfield (5) includes: an initialization period (2); a scanning period (3) for writing video data representing a picture to a cell (31) by carrying out write discharge between a scanning electrode (22-i) and a data electrode (29-j); and a maintenance period (4) in which maintenance discharge for making the cell (31) where the write discharge has been carried out emit light corresponding to the video data is performed between the scanning electrode (22-i) and a maintenance electrode (23-i). The initialization period (2) includes: a wall electric charge adjustment period (6) in which wall electric charge adjustment discharge for adjusting electric charges accumulated between the scanning electrode (22-i) and the maintenance electrode (23-i) during maintenance discharge is carried out; and erasure periods (8, 10).
