PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition of a skin care preparation for external use, which is obtained by using a silica-coated metal oxide fine powder having low toxicity to the human body and excellent water dispersibility, forms no aggregate with a thickener and has proper viscosity, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The composition of the skin care preparation for external use comprises the silica-coated metal oxide fine powder having≤3 isoelectric point and pH≥7 and≤10, preferably pH≥7.5 and≤10. The method for producing the composition of the skin care preparation for external use comprises adjusting water dispersion of the silica-coated metal oxide fine powder to pH≥7 and mixing the water dispersion with a nonionic water-soluble thickener, adjusting the composition of the skin care preparation for external use containing the nonionic water-soluble thickener to pH≥7 and mixing the composition with silica-coated metal oxide fine powder having≤3 isoelectric point or adjusting the composition of the skin care preparation for external use containing the nonionic water-soluble thickener to pH≥7 and mixing the composition with water dispersion of silica-coated metal oxide fine powder having≤3 isoelectric point and which is adjusted to pH≥7.
