PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a malfunction of a linear sensor by preventing or suppressing sticking of oil and grease to a linear encoding plate even when the oil and grease on a carriage shaft stick to operator's hands, etc. SOLUTION: A recording apparatus is provided with a linear encode plate 6 for reading out by the linear sensor 11 mounted on a carriage 7 in order to control the movement of the carriage 7. The recording apparatus is provided with a baffle member, such as a linear encoding plate sealing bar 15 arranged in front of the linear encoding plate 6 along the linear encoding plate viewing from the side on which the operator manipulates the recording apparatus.
