PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat transfer printer which suppresses the occurrence of wrinkles on an ink ribbon even when a printing wherein a balance in the printing rate is uneven to the width direction of a paper is performed. SOLUTION: For this heat transfer printer 1, a ribbon tension unit 14 is provided between a ribbon feeding unit 4 and a printing unit 3. In the heat transfer printer 1, for the ribbon tension unit 14, a tension roller which imparts a tension to an ink ribbon 11, and at the same time, is rotatably provided, and an adjusting mechanism which adjusts the tension to the ink ribbon 11 are provided.
