PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can always carry out an appropriate outline emphasizing process even when the resolution of image data has a directionality. SOLUTION: An outline emphasizing process means 3 for correcting the pixel value of a target pixel on the basis of pixel values of surrounding reference pixels, and a storage means for storing information that specifies a positional relationship between the target pixel and the reference pixels are set. A pixel of an arbitrary positional relationship with the target pixel is made selectable as the reference pixel. A tailing phenomenon due to heat storage of a thermal head can be prevented by the same process if the reference pixel is selected appropriately. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
