Locating stops (13) are fitted to a long side (12) of the slide (6) support surface (5). A clamping plate (3) is moved relative to the mounting plate (2), and has a clamp (18) gripping a long side (9) of the slide, through relative movement between the clamping- and mounting plates. A spring-tensioned clamping arrangement is used for the slide, with the clamp (18) led longitudinally in the clamping plate guide. The clamp is covered by a resilient material. A tension spring is connected to the clamping plate, which is parallel to the support plate. An actuator moves the clamping plate towards the stop. Further stops are provided, with additional actuators moving the clamped slide against them. A clamping rod is used. This rod is turned on its axis to provide a friction drive moving the slide towards the stops. An array of support surfaces supports many slides.
