PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display capable of enhancing the display contrast ratio. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display 10 includes a cell 24 having a viewed region and a non-viewed region. The cell 24 contains a suspending fluid 16 and a first particle species 12 and a second particle species 14 dispersed within the suspending fluid 16. The first particle species 12 and the second particle species 14 are vibrated by applying the first electric field by means of an electric source 62 and are separated from each other, from walls of the cell 24 and from the viewed region 27 and the non-viewed region 25. Then, by applying the second electric field in one direction by means of the electric source 62, the first particle species 12 are moved to the viewed region 27 and the second particle species 14 are moved to the non-viewed region 25 and, thereby effecting a colored state.
