The stool is assembled of a rectangular seat area (10), which can be padded, two crosswise arranged legs (12) and a support frame located underneath the seat, fitted with a folding mechanism. The support frame comprises two bars longitudinally joined to the seat and two transversal elements positioned between the bars. For folding a locking element at the outer end of one of the transversal bars can be released from a gate by moving a lever (31) connected to a cable acting on a spring accommodated inside the bar.
