PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which attains a suitable communication control between an imaging unit and a camera body by detachably constituting the imaging unit and the camera body. SOLUTION: The digital camera 1 includes the imaging unit 3 having an imaging element, and the camera body 2 having an image processing circuit. The two are detachably constituted of coupling mean 36, 36b, 36c, 51, 53, 54 and 55. The two respectively have radio communication units 313, 210 for performing a short distance radio communication, and connectors 18, 38 for performing a mutual wired communication. They are respectively switched by communication control means 310, 201. The communication control means can eliminate a time lag from the operation of the coupling means to the state that the two are completely separated by starting the radio communication based on an operation signal output in association with the operation of the coupling means when the imaging unit and the camera body are switched from the coupling state to the separating state by the operation of the coupling means, and can operate to photograph in a short time.
