PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of dealing with a plurality of high resolutions utilizing an existing circuit as it is without requiring any extra circuit additionally. SOLUTION: Using an existing timing signal generating circuit comprising a first counter 31 receiving an encoder signal and a reference clock signal, a second counter receiving the output from the first counter and a clock signal of 16 MHz or 24 MHz, and a switch 33 for switching a 16 MHz clock signal and a 24 MHz clock signal, the clock signal is switched by means of the switch 33 such that dots are printed at a print timing of 2400 dpi for the first and second times and printed at a print timing of 3600 dpi for the third and fourth times. Printing at print timing of 4800 dpi can be readily realized by using a print timing combining both resolutions. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
