PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve unreeling property in a traverse driver unit for each spindle. SOLUTION: In the method of winding a thread while varying the traverse width pulsatively, traverse reversal points are changed irregularly at the position determined by the random number from the start to the end of winding. The thread is wound to form a desired winding pattern. The traverse speed is changed according to the traverse width. The left and right traverse reversal points are separately set so that at least one of the left and right traverse reversal points is changed zigzag for every stroke in at least part of the process from the start to the end of winding so as to form a left-right asymmetric winding pattern.
