Select lever for automatic transmission

The device (1) has a torque sensor to detect an input torque to a drive shaft (4) of a select lever (2). A select position sensor detects the stroke angle of the lever. A data storing unit stores a mechanical load characteristic of the lever. A control unit has an electric motor to output an assist torque to the lever. The assist torque is controlled based on the input torque, stroke angle, and characteristic of the lever.
