IMAGE COMPRESSION METHOD USING WAVELET TRANSFORM

PURPOSE: An image compression method using wavelet transform is provided to perform the wavelet transform in one of column direction and row direction by the number of reference wavelet transform, store only the first low frequency wavelet transform data and the last first high frequency wavelet transform data in a memory, and perform the wavelet transform of the wavelet transform data stored in the memory in the other direction by the number of the reference wavelet transform. CONSTITUTION: Image data are wavelet-transformed in one of column direction and row direction of the image data by the number of reference wavelet transform, and the first low frequency wavelet transform data and the first high frequency wavelet transform data are outputted(S10). The first low frequency wavelet transform data and the last first high frequency wavelet transform data are stored in a memory(S20). The wavelet transform of the first low frequency wavelet transform data and the last first high frequency wavelet transform data stored in the memory is performed in the other direction by the number of the reference wavelet transform, and the second low frequency wavelet transform data and the second high frequency wavelet transform data are outputted(S30). Quantization data are outputted with respect to the first high frequency wavelet transform data, the second low frequency wavelet transform data and the second high frequency wavelet transform data(S40). The quantization data are received, and compressed data are outputted(S50).
