An elongated workpiece may be moved between sensor heads (2a,b) on the ends of movable arms (4a,b). The arms form parts of industrial robots (6a,b) with six degrees of freedom. They stand on rotatable bases (60a,b) on platforms (8a,b) which may move up and down on vertical pillars (12a,b) on portal frames. The portal frames are connected together at the top. The vertical pillars have wheels at the bottom and the test assembly (10) may move along horizontal rails (14).
