PURPOSE: Provided are a nematic liquid crystal composition for corresponding to a moving image, which contains a fluoro isothiocyanate group as a main essential component and can realize high brightness and high speed response, and a liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal composition. CONSTITUTION: The nematic liquid crystal composition contains: 1-80wt% of a nematic liquid crystal compound represented by the formula 1, 2, or 3; 20-99wt% of at least one compound selected from the nematic liquid crystal compounds represented by the formula 4, 5, and 6. And the liquid crystal display contains the nematic liquid crystal composition. In the formulas, R1-R3 are independently or simultaneously C1-C12 alkyl, X1-X6 are independently or simultaneously H, F, Cl, CN, or NCS, l, m, and n are independently or simultaneously 0 or 1, R4 is C1-C12 alkyl, R5 is C1-C12 alkyl or alkoxy, R6 is C1-C12 alkyl, X7 is H, F, Cl, or OCH3, X8-X9 are independently or simultaneously H, F, or Cl, R7 is C1-C12 alkyl, X10, X11, X9 are independently or simultaneously H, F, or Cl. |
