PURPOSE: A drum for an excavator for excavating a vertical ditch in solid soil is provided to excavate the ditch corresponding to the overall width of a cell of the drum, with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A drum for an excavator for excavating a vertical ditch in solid soil includes a cylindrical cell(22) with a section to rotate around the center of an axis of rotation of the cell, and plural excavating mechanisms(28,30) mounted to the outer section of the cell. The excavating mechanisms include first rollers(36) rotating around an axis having an angle smaller than 45 degrees to the axis of rotation of the drum. The outer wall of the drum is a rotating face symmetrical to the central face of the roller perpendicular to the axis of rotation and the central face is combined to the central face of the cell. The outer wall has a cutting member(38) and the length of the cutting member is smaller than the length of the cell. The excavating mechanisms include second rollers(50,52) rotating around axles(54,56) of cantilevers by a support part mounted to the central area of the cell. The axle is formed at an angle smaller than 30 degrees to the axis of rotation of the cell. Casings(E,E') of the outer ends of the second rollers exist within a plane including one-ends(32,34) of the cell. The cutting member is fixed to the outer wall of each second roller. The drilling areas of the second rollers are overlapped with the drilling areas of the first rollers.
