PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for providing clocks of a synchronous separator are provided to correspond to sources of various frequencies. CONSTITUTION: A synchronous separator(200) separates horizontal and vertical synchronous signals from a source, counts the vertical synchronous signal, and provides the counted value. The first and second clock generating units(208,210) provide various clocks. A switching unit(212) selects one of the various clocks provided from the first and second clock generating units(208,210), and provides the selected clock to the synchronous separator(200). A microprocessor(214) discriminates a frequency of the source on the basis of the counted value of the vertical synchronous signal, selects a clock corresponding to the discriminated frequency of the source, and outputs the selected clock.
