A filter catalyst includes a fibrous layer formed on the outermost surface of cellular walls of inlet cells and has entangled fibrous substances composed of a heat-resistant material. A filter catalyst comprises a honeycomb structure (1) having inlet cells (10) clogged on a downstream side flow of the exhaust gases; outlet cells (11) neighboring the inlet cells and clogged on an upstream side flow of the exhaust gases; and cellular walls (12) demarcating the inlet cells and the outlet cells, and having pores (13). A catalytic layer (2) is formed on the surface of the cellular walls and the inner surface of the pores. It includes a support powder composed of a porous oxide and a catalytic ingredient loaded on the support powder. A fibrous layer (3) is formed on the outermost surface of the cellular walls of the inlet cells and has entangled fibrous substances composed of a heat-resistant material.
