The device for the filling of a supply container of especially a rail vehicle (12) with braking sand or loose material has a storage pipe with an inlet head (26) determining the feed direction of the sand and delivery direction for the air, and with a pipe (34) for delivery of sand to the vehicle. The inside diameter of the storage pipe is especially 150mm. The inlet head between an inlet pipe (27) for the sand and a ventilation passage has a shut-off component by which the feed passage for the sand is closed off in the direction of feed.
