An image-forming composition (C1) comprises a polymeric compound obtained by the addition reaction of a resinous polymer having at least one phenolic hydroxyl group with silane coupling agent; an acid generator; an infrared absorber; and an alkali-soluble resin. An image-forming composition comprises a polymeric compound obtained by the addition reaction of a resinous polymer having at least one phenolic hydroxyl group with nitrobenzene (substituted at 2, 4 and 5 positions by -CH 2-G 1>-R 3>-X 1>, R 1>and R 2>respectively), or nitrobenzene substituted at 2 position by -CH(R 4>)-G 2>-R 5>-X 2>; an acid generator; an infrared absorber; and an alkali-soluble resin.
