A receiver (60) for use with one or more antennas has a delay part arranged to generate a number of candidate delayed signals, a selector for selecting delays from the candidates according to an SNR of each of the candidate signals, and a RAKE processor. By determining the signal quality before RAKE processing, the selection of the signals having the best relative delays for each of the fingers of the RAKE can be achieved more simply and noise immunity can be improved. The number of despreaders can be reduced by having one RAKE processor shared by all antennas. Reducing the complexity can help increase the battery life and decrease the cost of mobile terminals. |
